GREGG MCMILLAN: MUSIC
Henrietta Marie from "JUSTICE OF THE PEACH"
A Florida Folk song about an English Ship, the "Henrietta Marie" that carried slaves from Africa to Jamaica and sunk off the coast of Florida in 1700. No slaves were aboard when the ship sunk. So it was sort of like "the bad man got his in the end kinda thing". Scott Nelson is a true friend and co writer that is the brother of Steve Nelson, who was the original drummer for the Dixie Desperados. After I played the Florida Folk Festival in 2006 we teamed up to write folk songs together. He has one called "Old Belamy Road" that is another great Florida heritage folk song. Thanks Scott.

Henrietta Marie
Henrietta Marie
branded souls at the bottom of the sea
Oh the humanity
The days were long
The winds were strong
We could feel our freedom slipping away
Shackles on the man
fell to ocean sands
We could see the Angels along the way
Henrietta Marie
Henrietta Marie
branded souls at the bottom of the sea
Oh the humanity
The nights were sung
like a sad slow song
we could hear our lives in refrain
In the bright hot sun
the shadow of a gun
leaving what freedom would remain
Henrietta Marie
Henrietta Marie
branded souls at the bottom of the sea
Oh the Humanity
Now that freedom won
all that's said and done
let the story be told forevermore
Henrietta Marie
